On Saturady, April 24, Strawbery Banke Museum will be holding an Earth Day Volunteer Garden Cleanup Day to bring life back to the Historic Gardens. Other work opportunities throughout the site will also be available for those not inclined toward gardening, but all work done will help the museum get ready for its May 1, 2010, opening. Volunteers should arrive at the Visitors Center between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Please feel free to bring your favorite gardening tools, wheelbarrows, rakes, and gloves. All other tools will be provided by the museum. Rain date will be Sunday, April 25.

Following lunch, join the group for an Heirloom Seed and Plant grow out! Slow Food Seacoast is partnering with Strawbery Banke and Chef’s Collaborative to teach how to grow your own food and eat from your own backyard.
Participants will receive free heirloom seeds and plants, and have the opportunity to enjoy free workshops and talks. The afternoon sessions will run from 1:30 until 4:00 p.m., and include RAFT (Renewing America’s Food Traditions) information sessions, gardening tips, and heirloom seed planting, plus plenty of opportunities to get dirt under your fingernails.
