The New Eden Collaborative in Newbury, Massachusetts, has been sponsoring a series of workshops this Spring with an emphasis on skill-building and hands-on learning. May’s workshop on “Cultivating Shiitake Mushrooms” gave us the chance to learn how to prepare logs and stumps, inoculate them with spawn, and finish with a wax seal. Each of the participants worked on their own log, giving us ample opportunity to use a power drill!

Upcoming workshops include building and using a “Chicken Tractor”  on June 5th, and “How to Build an Earth Oven” from June 25 to 27. More information about the New Eden Collaborative, their community garden, and workshops may be found at their website.

Additional listings of events, including Seacoast farmers’ markets, can always be found at the Seacoast Eat Local Calendar.
