fishtival_sml.jpgCome join the fun at this year’s Fishtival in Prescott Park, coming up on Saturday, September 25:

NH FISH & LOBSTER FESTIVAL

Celebrating 400 Years of Local Seafood

Saturday, September 25, 2010, Noon-4pm

Admission - FREE

Otherwise known as the Fishtival, this event debuted in 2009 and is a special collaboration between a variety of community organizations to support the local fishing industry. This fun-filled event will feature seafood tasting, games, music and more.

Walk the decks of a local fishing boat, taste freshly-landed local seafood prepared by Seacoast chefs, learn to identify and prepare local fish, watch an on-location cook-off competition between chefs, investigate the Gulf of Maine ecosystem, sing a song and hear a tale or two. This first-ever interactive festival celebrates 18 miles and 400 years of NH fishing communities and traditions.

Find more information about the movement to support New Hampshire’s local fishing industry at www.nhseafood.com

The event is co-hosted by Prescott Park Arts Festival and Seacoast Local, in collaboration with local fishermen (NH Commercial Fishermen’s Association and Granite State FISH) and local food advocates, including Seacoast Eat Local and Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance.

Funding for the event is provided by UNH Sea Grant, Friends of the South End, the NH Division of Ports and Harbors, City of Portsmouth and Esther’s Marina.

Generous in-kind support is provided by Seaport Fish, Eastman’s Fish Market, participating restaurants, educational nonprofits, and Seacoast Growers’ Association.

Information about the Fishtival may be found at Prescott Park’s website. If you’re interested in volunteering for this special event, sign-up is available online >
